Microdosing THC for Better Sleep
I’ve had a complicated relationship with sleep for my entire life.
It can be hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, and hard to roll over and go back to sleep when I’ve woken up in the middle of the night.
At times, it feels impossible to shut my brain off and just get some rest. My anxiety seems to thrive at night, laying in the dark with nothing to do but try to do nothing. My brain - which should be ready to shut down - moves a million miles an hour, compiling everything I haven’t done today, need to do tomorrow, and have coming up.
And all of this was a struggle before I became a parent.
Parenthood and Sleep: A Classic Struggle
As anyone who’s ever had a child will tell you, you don’t become a better sleeper after bringing a little one into this world. Instead, my anxious brain had new things to ruminate on: everything my son needed, everything that could go wrong - every little worry rose to the surface at bedtime.
When I could fall asleep, the smallest cry from him would wake me, and the pit in my stomach made it impossible to relax enough to fall back asleep. Nighttime is the perfect time for catastrophizing - but it’s hard to be a present parent when you didn’t get enough (or any) sleep.
It shouldn’t be complicated to get a good night’s rest - and yet it is, for myself and for so many people. (Science confirms this: moms get less sleep)
Our brains are wired for prediction. We’re always trying to figure out what’s going to happen next. As parents, we’re also trying to figure out what our kids need, especially before they can tell us. But my overactive brain simply couldn’t turn it off - even for its own good.
Trying to Find the Perfect Sleep Aid
I struggled for years to get a good night’s sleep.
I tried a few glasses of red wine at night, which knocked me out but left me unable to function the next day. I tried CBD sleep gummies, but found I had to take an entire package just to fall asleep. I tried super potent THC edibles which helped me fall asleep and stay asleep, but they left me so high and groggy it was impossible to get up in the morning.
You name it, I’ve tried it.
After I launched High Confectionary’s Uplift gummy, I wondered: could I create a cannabis gummy with a low dose of THC that would help me get a good night’s rest?
Typical sleep edibles for sleep have too much THC for me. I get high and sleepy, but that high feeling is too intense I can still feel it when I wake up in the morning and sleeping through my alarm because of an edible is no better than waking up with a hangover because of drinking.
I needed something gentle, a microdose of cannabis to help my brain wind down at the day’s end - without being overpowered into sedation. I wanted to get more sleep naturally, not be induced into it.
A Microdose of Cannabinoids: the Perfect Sleep Aid
When I started formulating my sleep gummies, I knew 1 mg of THC was the perfect place to start. I also included 1 mg of CBD and CBN because these cannabinoids interact with different receptors in your endocannabinoid system (and in your brain) and can help you relax and shut down better when they work together.
I got pregnant when I was developing these edibles, so I didn’t get to try them until after my son was born. But with a newborn at home, I knew I still needed to be functional around the clock, ready for him whenever he needed me - and that meant not taking too much THC.
Turns out, these gummies are perfect for that. 3 mg of the combined cannabinoids is enough to help my anxious brain wind down naturally while ensuring I can get up in the middle of the night if my son needs me - and still fall back asleep again.
I wake up refreshed and ready to go in the morning, especially now as he’s getting older and sleeping through the night. I never feel bad about taking an Uplift gummy or two when I’m enjoying my night with friends because I know one sleep gummy will have me sleeping like a baby.
While I made these edibles to solve a personal problem, I knew that there were other people out there who needed these too. So many edibles (and cannabis gummies) are made with too much THC - even 5mg is a lot for someone like me. I’ve been amazed and honored at the feedback I’ve received from people who have tried these gummies, and I’m grateful to be able to share them.
“My brother introduced me to your wonderful gummies- I’d been having horrific nerve pain andI got tired of taking so much AdvilPM and for such along time. Fast forward, your product worked.”
"I have been using the sleep gummies occasionally and now my 99 year old mother takes 2 every night! Now that I have tried them, I am recommending them to patients. They taste great and I appreciate that they have an exact amount of THC and other ingredients which makes them trustworthy."
"I swear these are the only thing that help me sleep"
You deserve a good night’s sleep. I know how hard it is to struggle with poor sleep. If you’ve tried other sleep gummies and not gotten the results you wanted, I invite you to try High Confectionary’s Go To Sleep Gummies with a microdose of THC. They have just 3 mg of cannabinoids and are made with clean, vegan ingredients to gently stimulate your endocannabinoid system and help your brain wind down for the night. If you need more, you can always build your buzz.
I take a sleep gummy every night, and I’ve never slept better in my life - even with a baby at home. It brings me joy to know that my son will know a well-rested, present mom who is always excited to start the day with him.
